Satire of Political Greed, Folly, and Superstition submitted by deets on August 3, 2014, 6:56am I do not know what made me reach for Wizard of the Crow from the library shelf, other than its catchy title, but I am glad in this instance that I DID judge a book by its cover. While the book tends to go on a bit too long, in my opinion, it was a thoroughly funny and entertaining read, albeit occasionally too close to reality for comfort.

WIzard of the Crow is the tale of a corrupt and impetuous dictator of the fictional Aburiria, Africa. Unemployment even for the highly educated, is at an all time high in the country, and while the dictator and his cronies rake in money left and right, driving Mercedes Benz through the city while most walk or ride donkey carts, the unrest caused by such obvious corruption and inequality is reaching a tipping point. Through fate, or circumstance, or whatever word you want to use to describe it, the WIzard of the Crow is born.

The Wizard of the Crow is a biting satire on the lengths people will go to for power and wealth, and the greed that takes over all reason and even logic, as those who gain power through corrupt means also realize they can lose that power just as easily. While the W of the C is fictional, it certainly comes too close to the truth for comfort at times, showing us just how ridiculous we can all become in the face of uncertainty and desperation.
