Lesbian Romance submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on July 22, 2013, 9:59pm Set in India in the 1990s, "Fire" tells the story of two sisters-in-law who live with their husbands and mother-in-law in an urban apartment and cook in the family's restaurant. Neither woman is happy, until the unexpectedly fall in love with each other.
The movie is in English because it is meant to be accessible to people all across India (whose citizens speak many languages). The depiction of lesbian love was so controversial that movie-goers in India protested and the director had to hide for safety.
The movie has some "R" rated scenes, although American audiences will likely think them quite tame. There is also some violence, which is (rightfully) disturbing.
