Slower than the first two, but I'm still hooked submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 15, 2017, 8:33pm This third book of the Temeraire series was a little slower than the first two for me, though I am still solidly hooked on the 9 book series. It reimagines the Napoleonic Wars... with dragons. This story is the overland journey (following Marco Polo's spice route) from China to Turkey. The appearance of the new character Tharkay is delightful. His wildly different history and perspective adds much to the story. The feral dragons and Temeraire's growing world perspective appeal to me.

There's a lot of detail and historical context, which might weigh some down, but I thought it was well done and handled in a way that allowed the story to keep moving. I love that each book moves the story forward with almost no repeating of the material from the previous stories. This kind of historic war-setting and battle-retelling isn't generally my "thing," but Novik does such a great job bringing the world and the characters to life that I am quite caught up in it.

An Addictive Series submitted by BurntSaori on June 24, 2019, 5:05pm This is a wonderful series, beautifully crafted. I can't put it down and just finished the 4th book, Empire of Ivory.
