Nick Sullivan is no Mark Hammer
submitted by sremen on April 12, 2007, 9:10am
As much as I enjoy James Lee Burke's ongoing saga Dave Robicheaux, this sound recording was too unsatisfying to go beyond the 3rd disk. The reader, Nick Sullivan, apparantly a replacement to the venerable Mark Hammer, gets most of it right except for the lead character's stream of consciousness "young voice", that of a man in late middle age, well worn by his life's vicissitudes. Sullivan's earnest and hasty cadance/delivery seems wrong in interpreting Burke's narrative style -- or at least it is unsatisfying and does not ring true.
This will make a better read.
