Perfect submitted by Sara W on June 27, 2011, 8:45pm Julia Child's "My Life in France" is equal parts love story of Julia and Paul Child, Julia and gastronomy and Julia and France. I adore it.

Julia's biography is 100% classic Julia - disarmingly honest and effortlessly charming all seemingly simple and accessible over the top of years and years of hard work and incredible dedication.

I found Julia's retelling of her life to be captivating, endearing and informative. I liked her initially because I found her goofiness to be accessible and sweet but the more I read this book, the more I saw her for a determined, capable, pioneering individual. Also, she and Paul Child are one hell of a team.

Food-lover's delight! submitted by eapearce on June 18, 2015, 3:18pm I read this book for my book club and found it absolutely charming. Julia's voice comes through the entire book as equal parts sassy, goofy, and disarmingly honest, and her descriptions of day-to-day life in mid-century France were both fascinating and eye-opening. I admired the courage that she and her husband showed when, soon after their marriage, they left their family and friends behind to move to France for Paul's job there, even though much of the country is still barely recovered from World War II. Julia immediately throws herself into French food, wine, and lifestyle, enrolling in language courses and eventually in cooking classes at Le Corden Bleu. You can truly hear through the pages the passion that she and Paul share for the country, the people they meet there, and the new pursuits and hobbies they embark upon.

This book was so joyous! It uplifted me every time I picked it up. I am not particularly "into" cooking, but even I made it through the more detailed food and recipe descriptions without getting too bogged down. I'd highly recommend this as a light and wonderful summer read.

A favorite memoir submitted by A2AE on July 24, 2018, 10:37pm This is a memoir I return to time and again because Julia Child is just that endearing. I love her sense of daring, her ability to reinvent herself later in life, her determination and courage to become a master of French cooking and incredible writer. She's just lovely, and so is this memoir.

a unique voice submitted by FordAlpha on August 15, 2019, 10:45pm Julia Child has a unique, distinctive storytelling voice. She's forthright, funny, descriptive, and a keen observer of persons. I was immediately drawn into her account of her and Paul's adventures in France. It was fascinating to read about why and how she came to be the famous Julia Child of "Mastering the Art of French Cooking".
