A Long Shadow - A Good Read submitted by jldetlefs on July 23, 2011, 8:05pm The mother and son team that comprises "Charles Todd" are inventive yet historically accurate writers, who give the reader a sense of the time and place - England at the end of World War I. They provide stark detail about the effects of war on their main character, Ian Rutledge, a shell-shocked veteran, haunted by his deeds or possibly a ghost while trying to put together a new life as an inspector with Scotland Yard. The mysteries are complex and the characters well drawn out with a lot of historical detail which give you a sense of the area.

This is your typical "cozy English mystery" which is one of my favorite genres - and Todd is just top rate. I highly recommend the series to one and all, and "A Long Shadow" doesn't disappoint. - Jan Detlefs
