Perhaps the greatest graphic novel series ever written
submitted by dimuziom on June 15, 2013, 8:49pm
Neil Gaiman is incredibly talented in everything he does. The Sandman is his groundbreaking graphic novel that redefined what kinds of stories could be told in "comic books". It is the thing that convinced me that "graphic novel" is a meaningful term and not just a conceit by superhero comics writers to make their work sound more legitimate.
Season of Mists tells a very interesting story, one that is a bit more complex than some of the earlier volumes. I particularly like this volume for introducing big, interesting questions like "what happens if Lucifer decides to quit". While it lacks some of the emotional punch of Dream Country, not to mention the later volumes detailing the more personal tragedies of Morpheus, it has plenty of excitement and intrigue.

A Great Read submitted by crankycrack on June 26, 2015, 11:24am Excellent in every way.
If you love the Lucifer TV Show... submitted by valjean on August 10, 2018, 10:23am ...this is where he really began. Gaiman created and defined the DC character, which then went into his own spinoff series, titled Lucifer (which is absolutely great). That series was used to create the TV show (which is absolutely just ok) which recently got picked up by Netflix for its 4th season.
Wonderful submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 3:23pm This is a great volume that resulted in two spin-off series, "Lucifer" and "The Dead Boy Detectives."
Best Volume of Sandman So Far submitted by hrgray on June 12, 2023, 7:42pm This volume presents an excellent story in eight chapters. The art is especially pretty in this volume, and has really evolved over the course of the series. It was fun to see Gaiman's take on a lot of mythological characters, and Dream experiences some much-needed character development. A worthwhile read overall.
Continued Excellence submitted by kaymbre on July 6, 2023, 7:44am This was my first read of the fourth volume of the Sandman series. Neil Gaiman is a genius. What could have been a mindless slog of comic book combat sequences, instead ends up being a wonderfully told story of the magical underpinnings of the world. The characters are well developed and Morpheus goes through actual growth. As a side benefit, the foreword of the version I read is written by Harlan Ellison -- always a quirky joy to experience.
Neil Gaiman is an amazing writer submitted by jminlee on August 4, 2023, 11:39pm I'm truly amazed by how Neil Gaiman writes. Comics are usually not my preferred medium, but Gaiman's writing makes this series intensly mesmerizing.
