An actors' piece submitted by rossorr on January 18, 2021, 7:56am A chance for a grand cast of Hollywood A-listers to stretch out playing various dysfunctional characters. And since it’s pre-code, you can guess infidelity, bootleg booze, and cynical scheming are all stirred into the mix. After 90 minutes laboriously establishing all the characters’ conflicts and Terrible Secrets you might expect it all to climax in a dramatic explosion; but the actual dinner of the title is more of a fizzle.
