Yes, it’s fun to watch their characters fall in love. Yes, entertaining hijinks always ensue. But all of that is secondary to the dance numbers. Astaire and Rogers are extremely talented on their own. They’re marvelous with other partners. However, together they’re sublime and Top Hat captures their partnership at its peak.
