Epic Symphonic Scope submitted by Meginator on August 31, 2019, 8:42pm These symphonies are incredibly dynamic and still entertain, despite definitively feeling like products of the late 19th century. The New World Symphony has a bombastic opening movement and feels very grand and even cinematic, perhaps before its time. The 8th Symphony, by contrast, feels a bit moodier but still charts its course through many emotional modes. Both have iconic moments and melodies that are a pleasure to listen to. I cannot comment too fully on the quality of the conductor’s interpretation of these symphonies, as I was previously unfamiliar with them, but the orchestra ably transitions between moments of great excitement and subtle nuance, with nice balance and modern production values. The sound is clear and both symphonies are quite accessible and pleasant to modern ears.
