murder mystery plus submitted by unknown on August 1, 2008, 3:08pm Walt Longmire is sheriff in Wyoming. His best friend is an Indian whom he was in Viet Nam with. So far there is four books in the series. While each stands alone, it is good to read them in order. There is a high body count, balanced by humor and great character development. These stories take place in a small town and rural areas mostly. Longmire copes, with sensitivity, problems concerning the Indian community. There are many interesting supporting characters. A deputy is called Double Tough. The Under Sheriff in a woman from Philadelphia, whose language is profanity. "A Cold Dish" deals with a miscarriage of justice. Book two concerns the Basque community. Book three "Kindness Goes Unpunished" takes place mostly in Philadelphia. Book four "Another Man's Mocassins" features flash-backs to his Viet Nam experience. In these books, Craig Johnson explores grief, friendship, courage, loyalty, different cultures, life in lightly populated areas and interactions between people of all age groups. The excellent writing is consistent throughout. I highly recommend these books. I can hardly wait for the next one.

Better than the TV show! submitted by MHZ on June 20, 2017, 7:28pm As is typical, the book is way better than the TV show called Longmire. I enjoyed the characters, setting and plot.

Entertaining read submitted by barbfoster on June 13, 2020, 10:10pm I ran across the Walt Longmire series in a desperate attempt to find new authors to read during the covid-19 pandemic. I found the story entertaining and I will be reading the rest of the series now. The only issue I have with the series is that it has a lot of similarities to C.J. Box's Joe Pickett series about a game warden in Wyoming: law enforcement, sidekick who helps him out (who isn't in law enforcement). But both series are great and learning about places out west is fun too.

The biggest short coming of male writers. Sigh…. submitted by hazel70 on July 14, 2022, 1:40am I like this book except…. Can’t male writer drop that fantasy of being always sexy and attractive regardless of their age?
