Great Series submitted by acadotte on July 23, 2011, 1:31pm If you like paranormal books and want something a little different, this series is fantastic. It's set in the South, and vampires have "come out of the coffin" since there is now a synthetic blood. This is the first in the series and a great introduction to Sookie and all her friends, dead and alive.
Southern vampires
submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 17, 2012, 1:52pm
The first of Charlaine Harris' 13 Southern Vampire Mysteries, "Dead Until Dark" introduces psychic waitress Sookie Stackhouse, Vampire Bill and a whole cast of interesting characters in and near the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana. The book very much lays out the plot for the first season of the TV series "True Blood" based on these novels. Later seasons of the show veer off from the books, though.
You'll need to read this book first or you'll never understand the numerous, complex plot lines in this novel. Don't expect a nice, neat, complete ending, either. Even her 12th and latest novel in the series does not give us that.
First in the series submitted by kadams7 on August 25, 2014, 8:43pm Best book of the series. I really thought it kicked it off well. I was familiar with the show, so I pictured all of the characters as they had been cast in the show. I loved the southern feel and writing.
A Good Start submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 4:13pm I thought was a fun and cute concept, and I really liked the characters.
More romance than fantasy submitted by mlmchale on August 11, 2021, 2:00pm The genre is much more modern paranormal romance than urban fantasy, which is what I'd hoped it would be. I'm not a great judge of paranormal romance as a genre, but it was... fine? It's a weird intersection of small-town Southern U.S. with vampires and werewolves, and the protagonist is somewhat inexplicably psychic. I don't know that I'll read any more of it, but if that summary sounds like your cup of tea, then you'll probably love it.
4/5 submitted by Morgsush on July 2, 2022, 1:36am The writing style takes a bit getting used to, but it's a rich world full of memorable characters.
