It is Spring 1939, and the winds of war which will soon engulf the world are stirring. U.S. Navy Commander, Victor "Pug" Henry (Robert Mitchum) arrives in Berlin to assume his new appointment as naval attache in the U.S. Embassy, unaware that he and his family are about the experience the most harrowing years of their lives.
