"To Jackson Brodie, former police inspector turned private investigator, the world consists of one accounting sheet - Lost on the left, Found on the right - and the two never seem to balance. Surrounded by death, intrigue and misfortune, his own life haunted by a family tragedy, Jackson attempts to unravel three disparate case histories."

Mysteries Converge submitted by steveiew on June 23, 2018, 2:40pm A retired cop turned private eye takes on a number of cases that interweave with each other. While the mysteries were interesting the characters weren't my favorite. Overall, I was disappointed with this book. It felt like it had more promise than what was delivered.
Witty, funny despite tragedies submitted by virgodt on July 30, 2019, 4:19pm I really enjoyed the author’s writing style, especially her sense of wit. I also found the book uplifting despite some pretty terrible people and tragedies. Highly recommend!
hits you in the heart submitted by rincess on August 8, 2022, 11:40am This book really left me as a parent thinking about all the outcomes we can't be in charge of for our kids-- The author, Kate Atkinson, does a great job of tying up all the ends and I am now a few books into this series and have enjoyed that this is a tv show too! check it out but after you read this one :)
Lots of characters submitted by teri on July 6, 2023, 8:54am A well-written, engaging book. With multiple plots, and multiple people; it helped me to keep a running list of characters. Atkinson has a tendency to weave in and out of time, so pay attention. There's a lot of character study, which adds to the book - making it more than "just another mystery". Good writing, good story. Looking forward to reading more Jackson Brodie (the main character) books.
Messy Storytelling, Interesting Story submitted by gabvea on July 17, 2023, 5:13am This is the first book I've finished in several years that isn't a graphic novel. There are multiple mysteries, some with connections you aren't expecting and some that are obvious from a mile away. I'm a fan of non-linear storytelling but the author weaving in and out of different times and perspectives is excessive at times and detracts from the story. I really enjoyed how the book started with each case being discussed in its own chapter, it was a nice setup. Overall a good and thrilling read.
