Both films concern a troupe of travelling players visiting a remote town where the ex-mistress of the leading actor lives. She has a son by the leading actor, but hasn't told her child who his father is.

Review of Floating Weeds submitted by brooksza on July 9, 2023, 5:03pm This couldn't quite match the Tokyo Story, but there's still a lot interesting in this Ozu. I love seaside-set movies. The plot picked up once it becomes Shakespearean.

I'm not sure if it was the language translation, subtitles or intentional disrespect but everyone in this movie was commanding those who lived in the village with lines like "Give me sake". This felt so direct and rude. It could be a cultural difference though.
