COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Just about perfect... submitted by celesteh on February 20, 2010, 10:04am Robert Altman said this film came to him in a dream, and watching this film is almost like having one. 3 Women may be the most beautiful film you will ever see, and one you will not soon forget. It's anything but typical, focusing more on atmosphere, and you will probably find that after watching the film, you'll remember more of the imagery and more about how it made you feel rather than what actually happened. Is there a plot? Well...

The immature and girl-like Pinky Rose (Spacek) relocates to a small California desert town to work in a water-therapy-centric nursing home for the wealthy. The self-absorbed and gorgeous Millie (Duvall) is her trainer for the job and Pinky soon becomes obsessed with her, eventually moving into her apartment (that's decorated entirely in yellow). Willie Hart (Rule), the third woman, is a quiet artist living in the same apartment complex as Millie and Pinky, and is more of a background character initially. However, Willie, the most mysterious woman of the three, later gives you the feeling that she was most aware of everything that was happening all along.

Duvall is amazing in this film, and hilarious, because her character Millie is just so laughable and transparent. She is focused on the most superficial of things, talks incessantly, and is ignored by men because she is a such a joke. The film was finally released on DVD in The Criterion Collection in 2004. It had never been released as a home video until that point due to music rights issues. So glad it's here. Excuse me while I go put on my lemon yellow sundress...
