Hot Dog submitted by mtrax on August 21, 2014, 11:43am The duckling wants to know what a hot dog tastes like, and eventually gets a taste of the one that the pigeon found.

Goodl Ol' Pigeon submitted by Sara W on August 29, 2015, 9:34pm That pigeon sure is relatable! Who hasn't had the experience of getting an awesome treat and then being struck with the guilt of having to share and not wanting to? The duckling is a pretty hilarious little manipulator, and the pigeon continues to bring the humor as he shares the temper and indignation of a toddler. Love these books.

The Best submitted by manz on July 11, 2016, 10:22am The Pigeon books by Mo Willems are the best! Every preschool needs to hear these ones. So funny. So real.

A winner submitted by LisaT on August 27, 2017, 12:41pm You can't go wrong with the pigeon books. Duckling is an adorable pest that you'll love.

Manipulative little poultry submitted by FordAlpha on August 28, 2017, 12:09pm The pigeon is a proxy for all perpetually petulant toddlers, and this installment introduces another manipulative little poultry pest, the Duckling. I myself love hot dogs, and my kids love the Pigeon, but this isn't the most relatable entry in Mo Willem's popular series; the Pigeon is all too pleasant in the end about sharing with the Duckling. Were they true-to-life, the Pigeon would run off with the hot dog to his room and lock the door, and the Duckling would then pound on the door and holler while the Pigeon quickly ate up the hot dog without really enjoying it and then gloat about it, and they would both sulk for hours.

Good for talking about sharing submitted by rea2mill on June 30, 2020, 10:37pm While I agree with a prior reviewer that this book doesn’t show a realistic view of how sharing would work out between little kids, it does show Pigeon having all the emotions a kid would be likely to have about sharing something they really wanted. That can be difficult to talk about with a toddler, but I found I could describe Pigeon having the feelings and give those feelings names, and that seems to help my little guy. In the end Pigeon shares, even though he kind of didn’t want to. We also checked Mo Willems’ “The Duckling gets a Cookie” book, and the two make a nice pair for talking about sharing. Having both establishes a friendship between the two birds, and that the duckling shares happily with Pigion, which cleared up some confusion my kid had about why Pigion decided to share his hot dog in the end of this book. I would probably recommend any of the Mo Willems books we’ve read. He’s great and he really gets kids.
