Liked it submitted by crazypockets on August 2, 2013, 2:12pm I've heard people who read the book pan this, but I actually liked it. The romance aspect is pretty shaky in this movie, but I liked the ideas presented about how something like a transmission from space might be received by the world. The social implications along with the government vs. private industry implications were really interesting to me. And the overall idea of how alone human beings feel, that it's an actual condition of humanity, and the uplifting message at the end I thought were really well-presented. Some people may find it cheesy, but after going along for the ride of the adventure, I really enjoyed the ending. It made me want to read the book, though I may have a different take on the movie after I do.
Contact submitted by a2sue on August 8, 2015, 2:19pm The film "Contact" is far different from the novel. In my experience, usually the novel is better, but not in this case. I preferred the movie -- the storylines had many differences, too...
The novel is ALWAYS better than the movie. Especially the "Great Books" of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky submitted by Tassos on February 11, 2019, 12:40pm I saw this old movie with its silly old and unconvincing graphics from the 90s. It is 22 years old now, and it shows. Still, skipping a few boring scenes, you can see it to its unexciting end. The casting of silly McIdiot as the "spiritual" clown of the story was most unfortunate.

Timeless submitted by crp on August 21, 2019, 10:55pm Timeless movie that everyone should see
Loved it submitted by eileenw on July 13, 2022, 5:45pm As far as first contact sci-fi movies go, this one is quieter but poignant. It's not the big splashy summer blockbuster type. Would definitely recommend.
