Crude, but good submitted by pkooger on March 14, 2013, 6:21pm Frank Miller's graphic novel, "The Dark Knight Returns", is one of the all-time best stories of the whole medium. This book is a sequel to it, but not really a classic to me. It was enjoyable, sure. However it was just a little too heavy-handed in its message, a little too enthusiastic with its killing sprees, a little too oversexed (even for parody), and a little too black and white with its morality. I don't think we'll ever stop hearing about the moral decay of society, but it's a topic that deserves a somewhat moderate or nuanced response. Frank Miller doesn't do moderate well. Or nuanced. This is an enjoyable read, but to me it felt more aligned with your everyday comic book morality than with a real social critique.
