great movie submitted by jszchen on August 22, 2011, 8:31pm This is a great drama where the youth challenge conformity

An extraordinary film submitted by beeniepie on August 27, 2014, 6:57pm Robin Williams is a brilliant comic, but his dramatic work usually hits me in the gut. This is such a beautiful film. Family pressures, peer pressure, personal expectations, and the struggle to find your own identity are beautifully woven in this extraordinary film.

Good movie submitted by steveiew on June 19, 2015, 10:04pm For as highly as this movie came recommended I expected more. It had many of the predictable elements that most coming of age stories have. Worth watching but I wouldn't watch it again.

One of the best submitted by KJRULEZ on July 31, 2016, 7:12pm This movie is an absolutely beautiful classic. It celebrates poetry, boyhood, and pursuing your dreams. I personally found it really powerful and touching--if you like movies about literature or students against society, this will be a good film for you.

Fantastic movie! Carpe Diem! submitted by Beatlesfan04 on July 13, 2018, 2:52pm This is my favorite movie ever!! Robin Williams will blow you away and a young Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard are wonderful and moving. It will make you question society and Carpe Diem!

Good submitted by ckfinzel on July 31, 2018, 1:20am Aspects of this movie are problematic, but it was wonderful as a youth to see people who cared as deeply about art and literature as I did shown so well on camera.

Could watch again and again submitted by crp on August 5, 2019, 9:39pm Could watch again and again

Carpe diem! submitted by sara on August 16, 2020, 11:04am This unorthodox teaching method would be good for today’s students.

This is some heavy stuff submitted by amandasaurus on June 19, 2022, 1:13am Robin Williams at his best! The film deals with some really heavy themes that are sadly probably a good thing for high school kids to talk about-parent expectations, learning to be yourself, pressure to succeed, stress. Mentally prepare yourself if dealing with mental health stuff bothers you, but this is one you won’t want to miss.

Funny Note submitted by jibkidder on July 26, 2022, 6:51pm Ethan Hawke walked away from his debut here and thought "why am I being worshipped, I did almost nothing at all!" Film acting is such a peculiar art! This film really affected me as a child - fit in well with my Catholic worldview - ha.

dark academia done right submitted by pmheard on June 1, 2023, 12:01pm i’ve almost finished reading the secret history by donna tartt and desperately needed to see some dark academia in motion! this certainly satiated that desire, albeit with less violence, cynicism, and pretentiousness. this was heartwarming and simultaneously heartbreaking. an ode to the fleeting nature of our youth and the beauty in each moment that threatens to pass us by if we don’t pay close enough attention. much further could be extrapolated from this (including some queer coding… which i love) but i’ll leave it at that. big fan!
