hilarious!! submitted by airgood on July 25, 2014, 2:40pm Another great mockumentary from Christopher Guest! This one focuses on the folk music scene and includes a lot his regular cast members. It's hilarious, and the music is surprisingly good.

You Could Mistake This for the Real Thing submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2021, 12:36pm This hilarious mockumentary works not only because of Christopher Guest’s absolute and effortless mastery of the form, but because the music and the characters are so closely attuned to the 1960s folk revival they purport to represent (and gently poke fun at). The songs are spot-on and successful in their own right, written and performed with just a touch of humor but remaining largely faithful to the prevalent musical styles at the time; the soundtrack is nearly a legitimate folk compilation in its own right, and well worth checking out if this is a genre you enjoy. The film itself is crammed full of laugh-out-loud one-liners and subtle jokes alike, with pitch-perfect performances that carry the humor without feeling out of place; it pokes fun at the folk revival movement but always with a degree of respect, preventing it from becoming capricious or cruel. This is a fantastic comedy, a parody film with characters you actually come to care about, and an enjoyable romp all in one.
