COMMUNITY REVIEWS

A New Tall Tale submitted by Meginator on July 11, 2021, 2:49pm Per the author’s introductory note, this book was written to feel like a classic Western tall tale, and it is written in a way that translates really well to oral storytelling traditions. Some of the opening beats are a little fantastical even for this particular type of folk tale, but the core plot weaves together natural elements, a love of music, and pure courage in a satisfying homage to the tall tales Americans often grow up with. It’s also refreshing to see a Black girl as the heroine in this type of story, which opens up pathways for readers to imagine their own legends.
