COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Extraordinary Resource submitted by lenadams on July 29, 2008, 8:53pm A serious bunch of very well illustrated information for artists of every sort...we're talking the true basics here. Deals with the fundamentals behind materials and technique...why would you choose encaustic painting over gouache? what is the primary weakness of acrylics? what is Dammar varnish and how do you use it? can you replicate medieval egg tempera at home? what's a fugitive pigment?

No matter how skilled you are you'll find something new in here, and you'll be reminded of lots and lots you once knew but haven't thought of for years. Even better, the opportunities to be artistically inspired by these pages are endless.

The only problem is that this is a library book. Really it's the sort of reference you want to keep always at your bedside or in the loo for those moments when the muse has fled and you need a new way of looking at things.
