Absolutely Fascinating submitted by doutsasl on July 12, 2014, 3:48pm This is one of my favorite shows ever, and one that I have watched over and over again. It's an absolutely fascinating look at Edwardian life played out by modern individuals at a grand English manor house. There are special insights into the separate upstairs downstairs lives of the family of the house and their servants. Viewers watch as the family easily become all too comfortable in their privileged role as masters of the house, while the servants' resentment and exhaustion grows. You'll find yourself rooting for the strict yet lovable butler, Mr. Edgar, sympathizing with the dreary existence of the servants, and longing to join in the experiment (as long as you can be a member of the family, right?).
Riveting! submitted by willow on August 21, 2015, 1:35pm Manor House, or Edwardian Country House, provides a really fascinating look at life below stairs, specifically how the modern people playing servants could not handle the physical toil as well as the sense of degradation involved in living in this arrangement. The family "above stairs" is ultimately pretty uninteresting, and, particularly the man, seemed quite happy to settle into pampered life and rarely wondered about the others. A really interesting show; while I've enjoyed others of this series, this is likely the best.
Truly Interesting submitted by majean on August 5, 2018, 1:55pm I learned a lot about people's roles, which I enjoyed, but I wish they had shown more interactions between the family members. This show is very focused on the staff, which is fine, but I wanted to know about the family, as well. This really could have been a longer series. I'd love to see updates on what people learned and what they did after they left the house, too! The staff and family never interact in their modern personas, which is a shame.
