Thank You for the Musical submitted by Meginator on August 4, 2018, 10:36pm "Mamma Mia!" may be little more than an excuse to cover a run of ABBA songs, but it is just self-aware enough to work. The tracks on this album provide just enough supporting narration to convey the basics of the (admittedly threadbare) plot, and the reinterpretation of classic 1970s pop with voices and orchestrations from musical theater backgrounds brings out unexpected elements in some of the tracks. The male voices are nearly indistinguishable, which can be confusing, but the cast is strong and does justice to the original tunes. Any way you slice it, the fact that the musical's creators could take such a group of unrelated songs- including both mega-hits and, um, less memorable tracks- and spin some kind of narrative is incredibly impressive, and this soundtrack provides a nice alternate listening experience to ABBA Gold.

good music, different from movie submitted by umich.reader on June 17, 2022, 6:16pm A good musical soundtrack. In my opinion the music in the musical has a darker and richer feel that the music in the movie.
