Bells Ring and Gargoyles Sing! submitted by Dragonessa on September 1, 2009, 10:35am This is a Disney movie like no other! One of the greatest classic novels gets the ultimate Disney treatment and comes to life in a whirl of music, color, and sound! Few of the Disney classics can compare to this beautiful piece of cinematic glory! The story is based on the novel by Victor Hugo and brings his characters to magnificent life. As the darkest of Disney's films, it dealt with major themes like lust, profanity, infanticide and others while still managing a G rating. This is quite an achievement given the lyrics of some of the songs. Speaking of the songs, they were absolutely STUNNING. From the riveting and dramatic opening number "Belles of Notre Dame" (sung by Paul Kandel) to the dark and stunning "Hellfire" (sung by Tony Jay) the music takes you into the world of Hugo's novel and never lets you go! Even the lighthearted number "A Guy Like You" is charming and adds light in the darkness. The music too was absolutely gorgeous. The Latin-singing choir added depth and drama as well as a touch of darkness. The instrumental work is top-notch and crystal clear. The singing talent however is what gives the movie its true shine and its well-deserved place in the Disney Rennaisance. From Paul Kandel of Broadway fame to the late and incomparable Tony Jay, the acting and singing is superb.

This is a truly magical work of Disney art and should be appriciated by fans of the novel and Disney fans alike!

Great submitted by nfrassrand on June 23, 2011, 4:23pm This is a great movie designed by Disney that is great for all ages and is a must-see movie.

Okay submitted by LuckyDuck on August 7, 2011, 2:52pm Great for kids

Fantastic submitted by jiml on May 17, 2012, 10:48am Great but a little cheesy. I guess it's for kids... I still like it. It is my favorite after Emporers new groove and The Lion king!

Excellent submitted by Sonia on June 28, 2012, 7:20am This movie is actually known for being one of Disney's darkest movies along with the Black Cauldron. Fortunately most little kids won't pick up on the dark undertones so it is still a good family movie.

Good submitted by alumeng.ajl on July 29, 2012, 9:17am It's not a very good Disney movie. But without comparing it to other Disney films, it's a good movie.

Adorable submitted by jmock on June 14, 2015, 9:07pm I particularly enjoy Disney songs. and this one for sure lives up to it

Paul Kandel is a beast submitted by K09Aguilera on June 16, 2017, 11:19am First, if you're not willing to let Kandel's unearthly, insanely talented voice pervade and haunt every second of your day for the next week, then this is not going to be easy for you.

This movie is gorgeous, the soundtrack unmatched in the Disney universe, and the moral imperatives are woven into the plot seamlessly.

Great submitted by yenkong on July 5, 2017, 7:58pm One of the great Disney movies. We love it!

Great submitted by anacoluthon on August 1, 2018, 6:34pm I didn't see this film until I was a teenager, so I find the gargoyles super annoying. But this movie has an absolutely fantastic soundtrack!

A bit dark submitted by majean on August 17, 2018, 11:38am Maybe save this one until your kids are a bit older. I LOVED IT. Definitely in my top 5. One of the BEST soundtracks. But it has some sexy moments, and the Hellfire scene could be scary.

Not the best not the worst submitted by lstorc on August 28, 2018, 6:11pm This was a fairly average Disney movie. The animation was decent, but the characters fell flat.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame submitted by SBNB on July 14, 2021, 2:40pm Pretty good. My kids (7 and 4) enjoyed it.

Good! submitted by Abbie D. on July 9, 2022, 1:47pm One of the best Disney soundtracks in my opinion! Just lovely, kinda scary at points though.
