Poignant yet entertaining submitted by Jen Chapin-Smith on August 22, 2012, 1:48pm A poignant yet entertaining story of Hans, growing up in East Germany after World War II, who transitions to be a woman, Hedwig, in order to escape East Germany and go to the United States. The songs are so catching I often sing them, especially "Origin of Love," based on Aristophanes' story (told via Plato) of how everyone has someone pre-destined to be the love of their life. The story shows the growth of this character and all her sacrifices for her freedom and her art. I highly recommend it!

Not sure what to expect submitted by Xris on July 27, 2020, 1:43am I hadn't heard any of the songs before seeing the movie. Wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed it. I liked the songs that filled in the backstory of the characters. And I appreciated the special feature about the musical and the making of the movie. I didn't realize how many different people have played Hedwig, including a woman.
