Jazz is born in New Orleans at the turn of the century emerging from several forms of music including ragtime, marching bands, work songs, spirituals, creole music, funeral parade music and above all, the blues. Musicians profiled here who advanced early jazz are Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet, Freddie Keppard, and musicians of the Original Dixieland Jazz Band.

Stay with it past ten minutes, and Wow! :D submitted by KidBlue on July 21, 2014, 6:26pm Suffer through the painfully pretentious video preamble, which lasts about ten minutes, and then you'll get into a wonderful, marvelous and truly illuminating history of jazz. If you know nothing about it, as I did, it's ok, the video will slide you into jazz and its history effortlessly and painlessly. You'll be captivated, as I was, You don't even have to like jazz to enjoy this, but at least you'll have some knowledge about it!
