Queen

This is one of my favorite films; I've watched it several times. It inspired me to read biographies about her, and sparked a lasting interest in reading non-fiction about Queen Elizabeth, the Tudors, and going back to the Wars of the Roses.
Magnificent casting and a great movie-friendly adaptation of the true history of Elizabeth's early life and the beginning of her reign. It is something of a coming-of-age movie, though more a coming-into-power story. Every aspect of the production has attention to detail without being bogged down in it. It can feel melodramatic, but there really were such matters of life and death permeating the setting/time period.
