Thirteen-year-old Sophie and her cousin Cody record their transatlantic crossing aboard the Wanderer, a forty-five foot sailboat, which, along with uncles and another cousin, is en route to visit their grandfather in England.

beautiful and deep submitted by camelsamba on June 16, 2012, 10:34pm My 3rd grader was reading this at school with his 'book club.' He brought it home one night because he had not finished his assignment for the following day. After 15 pages of bedtime reading, I had to go back and read the beginning, and then I had to keep reading, and then I has to read to the end in case he didn't bring it home again - and then I cried. What a great book! I'm concerned the beauty of it might be lost on 8 and 9 year olds, though - lots of deep stuff here.

If you want a book that will ignite your imagination - with thrilling and emotional imagery, heart-racing adventures, and enriching portrayals of what it means to care about another person - definitely give The Wanderer a read! Creech did a beautiful job crafting this novel for young-adults; even a full-grown adult can appreciate its intricate text!
