Author has a way with words

Eleven short stories, and short stories just aren't my favorite. Plus every one is a tragedy. (The collection includes "Brokeback Mountain," in case you know that movie.)
But wow, does the author have a way with words! Her language is so vivid and precise that even in these short narrations the world that she draws just comes alive. Sometimes I felt that if she changed even a single word, she would change the whole meaning and tenor of an entire story. And that's powerful.
