"Also published as An overdose of death and The patriotic murders."
What reason would an amiable dentist like Dr. Morley have for committing suicide? He didn't have emotional difficulties, money problems, or love trouble. What he did have was an appointment with Hercule Poirot, who's not buying the suicide bit. Now the brilliant sleuth has taken it upon himself to drill the good doctor's patients, partners and friends. All he's come up with is the numbing fear that Dr. Morley wasn't an unlikely victim at all. Nor the first.

Poirot values every life submitted by camelsamba on August 2, 2018, 5:14pm I listened to this as a BBC Radio adaptation. The plot is convoluted and complex, and there's no way I could have figured it out on my own (at least not in the dramatization), but I enjoyed the story nonetheless. I did get a bit confused about the politics of the great niece - she seemed to swing hot and cold on whether the central character was worth protecting from harm. I did like the emphasis on how Hercule Poirot values every life, not just the lives of the rich and powerful. One thing I am wondering about since I listened to an adaptation instead of reading the book: does the nursery rhyme alluded to in the title play a prominent role? It got dropped in every now and then during the radio play, almost like throwaway lines.
