Animals should never wear clothes

As usual in a Jan Brett book, the illustrations around the edges tell what is happening behind the scenes - some of which you won't really notice until you read it through a second time in order to catch on. I don't enjoy this story quite as much as The Mitten, but it is similar enough in nature to appeal to the toddler and preschooler audience it is aimed at. Older children can luxuriate in the detail of the illustrations.

Very adorable drawing and the story of how Hedgie claims himself a new hat is wonderful! What a smart hedgehog! Totally recommend it to children ages 3-5!
