Originally published in single magazine form as The Sandman 41-49.
Older and more powerful than the gods themselves, the Endless are a dysfunctional family of cosmic beings that have ruled over the realms of dream, desire, despair, destiny, destruction, death, and delirium since the beginning of time. But three hundred years ago, one of the mythical beings gave up his duties and left his realm, never to be seen again. BRIEF LIVES tells the tales of Delirium and older brother Dream on a mission to find their missing sibling, as they encounter immortal humans and various deities while trying to locate the prodigal Destruction. But as their adventure draws Dream into a final, tragic confrontation with his son Orpheus, the eternal being learns the true meaning of fate and consequences.

Road trip! submitted by majean on August 16, 2018, 3:33pm Dream and Delirium go on a road trip. Enough said.

A look at all the Endless submitted by valjean on August 26, 2018, 11:11am This volume is great if you want to know more about each of the Endless, and see how they interact with each other and their world. It gives you more depth into what being an Endless gestalt ur-entity thing means, but also makes them more human. This is exactly the kind of thing that Gaiman excels at, like in American Gods and Good Omens.

Great Character Exploration submitted by hrgray on June 21, 2023, 2:40pm This volume was a great chance to see how much Dream has changed as a character over the course of the series. By diving deeper into the characters of Delirium and Destruction, this also gives interesting insight into the Endless - what they are and how they function. The art in this volume was beautiful as well.

Deeper into the Endless submitted by kaymbre on July 13, 2023, 7:05am This seventh collection of the Sandman graphic novels is a masterpiece that continues to showcase Neil Gaiman's unparalleled storytelling. In this volume, the saga takes a poignant and introspective turn, exploring themes of mortality, family, and the search for purpose. Brief Lives is a compelling and emotional journey that deepens our connection to the Endless and leaves readers in awe of its profound beauty and thought-provoking insights into the human condition.
