Impossible to put down. submitted by Kikumatsu97 on July 10, 2014, 4:49pm The setting, feel, and detailed descriptions in this book suck you in from the first page! I LOVE this book. It speaks to the power and struggle of women in a way that is related so well and timelessly. A MUST read for young twenties especially I would think. I think back on the time when I was reading this and am immediately transported to the places our beloved characters endeavor to travel through. If you want to get lost in the pages while drinking your morning coffee and be suddenly surprised that it's dinner time, read The Red Tent!

Wonderfully told submitted by Susan4Pax -prev. sueij- on July 23, 2017, 4:08pm Oh, this was wonderful. A tale of women, of their history, of their community, of their power and choices. The tale of Dinal (dee-nah), Jacob's daughter and the sister of Joseph (as in _Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat_) from the stories her mothers told her about life before her birth through the changes and times, tragedies and comforts, cultures and communities till her death.

Wonderfully told. Highly recommended.

An All Time Favorite submitted by Lia Rose on June 17, 2022, 8:13am It's rare to find a book that deals with loss, grief, and heartbreak of this magnitude without being oppressively sad. A truly amazing depiction of how people can endure and even thrive during times of great upheaval and violence. The tender reverence with which women's work and lives are treated has made this book one that I pick up again and again. First as a teenager, and now as a middle age mother of two, every time I read this book it connects with some new part of my experience by rooting my life to the lives of women through the ages. Highly recommend.

Timeless submitted by gtaylor on June 19, 2022, 5:29pm Don't go into this book expecting a retelling of classic biblical tales. Instead, the author brings to life an imagined narrative of Dinah, weaving a story of love, heartbreak, and sisterhood. This timeless story is not one I felt was heavily plot driven (though there were definitely memorable events), but more focused on the community of women and found families.

Loved It submitted by GSchne on July 26, 2022, 6:14pm I loved reading this book. The book takes place in a time where women were brutally oppressed, yet somehow this is a story of female empowerment. It's beautifully written, heartbreaking, fascinating. I highly recommend this book.

Captivating submitted by robinpollak on July 18, 2023, 2:08pm This book is timeless, and yet relevant to every time. Anita Diamant is such a talented writer and makes the struggles of biblical women relatable today. Highly recommend.

Memorable book submitted by eisbruchs on July 22, 2023, 7:14pm I appreciate the vivid story this book presents of the wives of Jacob in Genesis, and of Dina, the daughter of Leah and Jacob.

The book that showed me what historical fiction could do submitted by tuttlium on July 31, 2023, 7:40am Amazing how the author created a vivid, fascinating world from a very little bit of mention in the bible. I've read this book multiple times and never get tired of it.
