A Treasury Of Woods Lore
submitted by BookNerd on June 23, 2022, 12:24am
A new edition of the "Michigan Trees Worth Knowing" originally published by the Michigan Department Of Natural Resources. Far more than a field guide, this book condenses decades of knowledge and familiarity with Michigan forests into an easy-to-read discussion of each species.
Excellent for identifying individual species, this book also talks about seven major 'tree communities' in Michigan and offers more general information about forests, forest habitats, and the uses to which trees can be and have been put. "Fuelwood ranked by percent of heat" for example, compares the fuel efficiency of a standard cord of various types of woods to that of a ton of coal.
