This is a Problematic Book submitted by Riawhitebell on February 9, 2024, 7:15pm I would warn any parents against reading this book to their children. This book has many issues of authenticity in it. One big problem that is identified with this book is how McDermott claims this book comes from “native groups of the northwest coast.” He doesn’t acknowledge any true source or pay any sort of homage to the Native American tribe(s) from whom he took and adapted this story from. He’s taken a story that isn’t his and subsequently failed to provide the sources. For more information on why this book is problematic and an alternative book to check out, visit: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1_YQSG3wtzx1D8EM1khNLX5T845lQ34BiBVomJQUnS8I/edit?usp=sharing
