Be Sure to Read Together with a Parent submitted by KPNF on August 16, 2023, 6:04am I love Donald Crews. “Freight Train” was a favorite of my child when he was little., as well as many others. We liked this book too, which recounts a real-life, childhood experience of the author, where a group of children have a dangerous experience walking along the railroad tracks. The illustrations are great and the story is suspenseful, I only worry that some children will not realize the true danger the children were in (e.g. what if one of them tripped). (The narrator does state that the children never took the shortcut again.)
