One of my favorites!
This gorgeous book has the rare marriage of distinguished text and amazing illustrations. The patterned story allows children to follow the repetition of the structure, with a slightly different twist each time. In addition, they are introduced to the chronological cycle of the day, different members of a medieval court, and a surprise ending. What a joy that the child ends up being the wisest of all! The illustrations are carefully crafted to depict each time of day accurately, with watercolor lighting that sets the exact mood for the timeline. Perfect!
I love the costumes!
I love how the way this book was drawn. It's very funny because the king won't get out of the bathtub. The page finds a way to get him out.
The queen is wearing Lady Gaga shoes. The author has an interesting way of showing the passing of time throughout the day the king's in the tub.
