Waldman is director of the Brennan Center at NYU, a left-leaning research organization. Waldman provides a good history of major Supreme Court cases and their backlash. He also lays out the conservative strategies to dominate the federal courts.
He devotes special attention to the background of recent justices. He does an especially good job of the charade of originalism and textualism as foundations for judicial opinions, especially the dishonest and poor use of history. His conclusion is that with the 2022 cases he explores in depth, "the United States Supreme Court showed itself to be one of those threats to democracy" (p. 270).
