The Tri-County Summer Solstice Celebration has come to town, and even among local artisans, athletes, and marching bands, Hannah attracts fans of her own while serving lip-smacking pink lemonade desserts. But the mood sours when a body turns up, leading revelers to wonder if the festivities mark both the longest day of the year and the deadliest. A retired professional MLB player has met a terrifying end and, considering the rumors swirling about his past, the list of suspects could fill a small stadium. Among them could soon be Delores, Hannah s mother, who publicly held a grunge against the victim after he infamously dunked her in the tank at a previous county fair. Now, with her mother's innocence on the line, a life-changing announcement at The Cookie Jar, and a plethora of desserts to bake, Hannah can't afford to strike out as she begins a dangerous investigation into the ruthless killer who's truly in a league of their own.

Watered down submitted by Gr33nl3af on August 7, 2023, 10:50am Is it my imagination or does this book have more recipes than fiction? It feels like this volume has been watered down. Does seem like a ghost writer has been introduced and we just missed the announcement? While the fiction portion seems short, the storyline is fair. Still have concerns regarding Mike and now Norman is in trouble! Glad I don't live in Lake Eden!

Don't bother unless you're invested in the series submitted by Beatlesfan04 on August 23, 2023, 11:17pm It ended on an interesting cliffhanger for once- which is one of the only good things I can say about the book. As the other reviewer mentioned, it seems like there's a ghostwriter. I've said this for the past few novels now. Hannah used to be such a strong character, but after Ross she's very insecure and does not feel like she's being written in the same way. The novels also feel horribly dated for something set in the present day. It just doesn't make sense that in 2023 a woman in her 40s would not know how to use her cell phone (or at least to charge it) and still use a physical phone book to look up a number. The dialogue, actions of the characters, and details seem stuck in the 1950s, even though it's supposedly set in the present day. There are also more recipe pages than the actual novel it seems like. After one chapter there were 5 different recipes! And the recipes are not quality anymore. They're all very simple, throw a bunch of boxed stuff together recipes. A few of those are nice, but now they're the majority. Nothing feels interesting or original. Many recipes are just common sense variations on the one before it. I've made some of the recipes in past books and these just don't compare. She's also very specific about brands to the point of me wondering if the book is brand sponsorship more than actual book. Different recipes also repeat the same instructions and quips over and over- verbatim. If you're not already invested in the book series, save the time. I'm too far in now not to read them, but they are just not as enjoyable as they once were. It's too bad because I really did love this series until a few years ago.
