Leopold Kroner, formerly of Colby Enterprises, is released after five years in prison for embezzlement. Andrew Colby, claiming that Kroner has threatened him, hires lawyer Bob Regan as a secret bodyguard. Sure enough, Kroner turns up in Colby's room with a gun, and Regan kills him. Then Regan, who sticks around to romance Colby's secretary Noel, begins to suspect he's been used.

An OK noir submitted by Firehawk on November 22, 2023, 4:47pm I give this B-movie a passing grade.
There's better noir out there, but I enjoy watching mediocre noir as well.

This one was a bit tough to sit through with Ella Raines being used as a pawn with very little agency.
You get to see a pre-macabre Vincent Price.
You get to see Edmond O'Brien and William Bendix.
And, as of this writing, this is one of only three Ella Raines films in the AADL catalog.

The commentary track is OK, reviewing the actor's filmographies.
I find most commentary from film historians gives the filmographies,
but very little insight into the cinematography or direction. This is the same.
