Classic Country Sound, Modern Music submitted by Meginator on June 13, 2023, 11:40pm This is a wonderful country album that gets to the genre’s heart and soul, its unique combination of storytelling capabilities and charm. These songs are deep and personal, but also retain a keen sense of humor even (and perhaps especially) amidst heartbreak and sadness, giving the darker edges of the human experience a sense of warmth and relatability. Bentley’s deep vocals anchor the songs and effectively convey a full range of emotions (it’s not all negative), knowing just how to deliver the lines for maximum impact whether the effect is to provide a punchline or wonder sadly about what might have been. Musically, the album has an excellent balance of upbeat numbers and ballads, with a bit of twang to it that distinguishes it from a lot of contemporary country that seems to be losing its musical soul. All in all, this is country music at its best, made for playing on a long drive on the edges of town with the windows down.
