Creative take on a counting and colors concept book submitted by FordAlpha on July 24, 2023, 11:59pm Emily Gravett's humorous artwork and storytelling are almost always successful with my family. As in many of Gravett's books, the simple text of "10 Cats" relies on the playful illustrations to carry the narrative. In fact, the sort of tension between the straight-faced concept-book text (one white cat, two black cats, etc.) and the slapstick illustrations, along with some unexpected turns, is what makes Gravett's work so delightful. Even though my kids are pushing the upper limits of the target age range for "10 Cats", they were much amused by the kittens' antics and their increasingly colorful coats.
