COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Must be a very recent movie, if mine is the first review. THIS IS AN OUTSTANDING MOVIE, based on a great book from Sweden submitted by Tassos on March 17, 2023, 11:53am

This is based on a book I have read about some guy in Sweden. Great book, and it was made into a nice Swedish movie.

This movie is the US version. Having just finished it, it sure is different than the book.

I need to see the Swedish movie again and compare.

The US version falls for the usual Hollywood syrupy overdose, No wonder the poorly eating Americans have a diabetes epidemic!

It may be due to Tom Hanks excellent performance, or the cat's.

Enjoyable submitted by Zekicmom on July 15, 2023, 8:36am I was worried this movie would just be a rehash of so many other stories of a grumpy man who became a caring person after meeting some cute kid. But it wasn’t. Yes, Otto is effected by his new neighbors including two confidant young girls, but it is their mother who has the biggest influence on him. In the last Tom Hanks movie I had seen he had played Mr. Rogers. This was a very different character, but still an incredibly caring one in his own way. The supporting cast is great as well.

A Man Called Otto submitted by pamhockey25 on July 15, 2023, 10:23pm This movie is an update of the book A Man Called Ove, written by Swedish author, Fredrik Backman. This version was based in America. The movie did a good job of capturing the essence of the book, and I enjoyed Tom Hanks in the title role. I particularly enjoyed the extras where they discussed the decisions that were made for this version. Much of the movie shows Otto remembering better times. In the flashbacks, Tom Hanks son plays him as a younger man. Recommended!
