Okay submitted by zmclaugh on July 15, 2023, 7:57am This was okay but didn't get into some of the really problematic topics of exploiting children online like I thought it might.

Disappointed. submitted by foilista on August 16, 2023, 6:06pm There are some provocative and insightful ideas in here, but they are almost completely obscured by Petersen's prose. You hate to see it, but her writing is an odd mix of academic ideas borrowed from Lauren Berlant, random swearing, and completely disorganized musings. The book really could have benefited from a better editor.

Part of the problem, I think, is that her critique just isn't forceful enough. She seems scared of alienating any of the influencers she interviewed for this book, and far too invested in justifying her own attachments to influencer culture. She also completely elides the exploitation of children by their momfluencer parents.
