The Fabelmans is the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age-story of Steven Spielberg. In this telling Spielberg is Sammy Fabelman. The movie begins with Sammy’s first trip to the movie theater as a young boy, shows his love of filmmaking that develops from there, often against his father’s wishes, and ends as he is on the verge of working in Hollywood.
The movie was...okay. The acting was good. There were a couple of mildly funny parts. Sammy’s parents are polar opposites: his mother an artist – she gave up her piano career to raise children – and is selfish and reckless. His father is an engineer – smart and kind and devoted, if a bit boring. But at the end of the day I just didn’t care about any of the characters. Like I said, just okay.
amazing film about coming of age and family submitted by zaraz on June 9, 2023, 10:15am this was hands down my favorite film of 2022. the story, the characters, the dialogue, the sets… perfection! if you enjoy coming of age and/or family drama, this one is for you. I could watch this movie over and over, truly one of the greatest semi-autobiographical films I’ve ever seen. spielberg is a true master of his craft!
