Another Jane Harper Winner submitted by cdunlop on June 19, 2023, 3:58pm Aaron Falk is on a week's leave from his job with the Melbourne police, headed to the christening of his godson in Australia's wine country. During his visit, he learns of two unsolved mysteries -- a hit-and-run accident that killed a friend of his hosts, and the disappearance of Kim Gillespie, the former partner of one of them. Using powers of observation and inference that exceed those of ordinary mortals, Falk eventually cracks both cases. A long-time bachelor, he also finds love that might be compelling enough for him to leave Melbourne for the small town of Marralee. (Unfortunately, since this reportedly the last book in the series, we are unlikely to find out.)

Author Jane Harper drops various clues in this leisurely tale, but they aren't sufficient to enable a typical reader to guess the outcome. Exiles is a worthy successor to her previous four novels, two of which also feature Aaron Falk.

Slower burn than this author's usual books submitted by yaquta on July 24, 2023, 6:56pm I love Jane Harper's earlier books. But this one left me a bit bored even though you get two mysteries solved for the price of one! If you want to know what happens to Falk then read this one but yes, maybe have another book on hand when you get frustrated with the pace.
