Consistent; You Get What You Expect Here submitted by Meginator on June 24, 2023, 9:48pm By this point in their career, you know what you’re getting with the Goo Goo Dolls, and while this album has slicker production and less of an emphasis on the acoustic guitar parts than most of their previous work, these tracks fit right in with the pop-rock the group has been putting out since the mid-90s. Perhaps a little more simplistic than their best singles, these songs tackle the familiar subjects of love and hard times (not necessarily connected to one another) with catchy melodies and big, satisfying hooks. Sometimes all you need to satisfy is consistency and a strong sense of what you do well; the Goo Goo Dolls have both, and, as a long-time fan of the band, I really enjoyed this album.
