Tender and profound submitted by Slider on January 26, 2023, 8:05am Highly recommend this story of a woman accompanying her best friend to the end of life, and the satellite relationships with spouses, kids and hospice staff. Yes, it’s sad, but also funny, tender, angry, and redemptive.

Yes, yes, yes to Catherine Newman submitted by A2AE on July 2, 2023, 6:50pm I loved every moment of this story, and it's my favorite book by this author (who also has great essays on Cup of Jo); I like that she took her real life experience as a hospice volunteer and parlayed it into this incredible work of fiction. The morning after finishing it I longed to return to the world of the characters, their joys, struggles, confusion, and connections with others.

Good depiction of death but annoying submitted by robynegg on July 12, 2023, 8:12pm This has a clear eyed unsentimental depiction of death.. but something about the writing was just grating. All the characters were just a bit too precious and endearing quirky and everyone was always declaring how much they loved each other and playing songs on a ukulele. It felt a bit like a Wes Anderson movie at a hospice.
